Thurnham Heritage Award 2018

Thurnham Heritage Award 2018.

Thurnham is believed to be unique among Parish Councils in having established an annual award to recognize a contribution to Kent’s heritage.  The award was initiated by Parish Councillor John Horne when he was the Heritage Champion for Maidstone Borough Council.

The award is in memory of Lord Sandy Bruce-Lockhart, the late much respected Leader of Kent County Council and Chairman of English Heritage.

The award has been made from wood salvaged from Thurnham Castle surroundings when it was rescued from woodland invasion.

This year the Award was presented to Bearsted and Thurnham Society Representatives, May Richards and Roger Vidler, in recognition of his work on the protection of rural areas in the local community.

Thurnham Parish Council is looking for projects for the 2018 award.  The project can be heritage in its widest sense. Do you think you have designed an award winning building, have you established a new wood or wild flower meadow? We are looking for a real contribution to the heritage of Kent.

The decision will be made by Thurnham Parish Council, English Heritage, Kent County Council and Maidstone Borough Council.

Closing date for applications 30th April 2018.

An outline of your project should be sent to Thurnham Parish Council:-

or by post to 4 Birkhall Close, Walderslade, Chatham, Kent, ME5 7QD.
